Types of massage that I use
Strain/ Counter Strain Trigger Point massage - this is a type of massage that gets rid of knots in your muscles that might be causing pain and shortening your muscles. This can cause a "chain reaction" due to the fact that other muscles and joints have to work harder to make up for the orginal muscle not working properly. This type of massage is less painful than traditional trigger point massage because I relax the muscle at the same time which reduces the pain.
Myofascial massage - this works with the fascia (the stuff that wraps around your muscles to protect them) in your body. If you have seen the white film on a chicken breast that is underneath the skin, this is fascia. This can get "gunked" up (think like what happens when you get out a piece of Saran wrap) and cause pain and discomfort. It helps to release the fascia to feel the knots in the muscles underneath.
Lymphatic Drainage- this type of massage helps with swelling in your hands, feet, legs and other areas of the body that get "water weight". It is particularly helpful in pregnancy massage and for people dealing with side affects of medication and cancer. This massage is a very light massage (no pressure harder than putting a nickel on your skin) and can be very relaxing. It is a very slow massage and may be the only thing we do.
Reflexology - This is a deep tissue massage that concentrates on the feet, hands and ears. This massage was developed to work with the nervous system.
I also try and work out some of the scar tissue that has built up around injuries
